Prince Harry and Meghan Markle discuss controversy surrounding son Archie’s baby photos on Netflix show
Prince Harry and Megan Markle have grappled with their decisions about the birth of their firstborn child, Archie.
In the fourth episode of their Netflix docuseries, the couple said they had a falling out with the palace over where to do their postpartum photo op with their newborn.

Traditionally, royal babies are first unveiled on the hospital steps – something Princess Kate has dealt with all three of her children outside of the Lindo wing.
But Harry and Meghan instead chose to present their son to the world within the walls of Windsor Castle and invited members of the press to capture the moment.

Meghan said: “There was already the printing of the picture with Archie on the steps. Will they or not? But I was really worried about going into labor because I’m older and I didn’t know if I would have to have a cesarean.”
She continued, “I had a very longstanding relationship with my doctor and I trusted him with my pregnancy. And they said, ‘Right, but she’s in Portland Hospital and the steps are in that hospital (the Lindo Wing)’ And I said, ‘Okay, we could do a photo op in front of Portland Hospital.’

“They said, ‘That’s impossible. We couldn’t block off the streets and it would pose a threat to the ER entrance, because that’s where you’d have to take that picture.’
Meghan said she asked what the ‘hybrid’ solution was and if they could give the press more time at the castle, adding: “And everything internal was like, ‘Yeah yeah oh great yeah.’ At no point did anyone say, ‘Absolutely not’.”

Meghan welcomed son Archie on May 6, 2018, followed by daughter Lilibet on June 4, 2021. In the final episode of the series, Misan Harriman, a photographer and friend of Harry and Meghan, revealed the moment they revealed to him that Meghan was pregnant again.
“I just freak out. I’m freaking out because I know what they went through to get to this place,” he said. “And they say, ‘It must be you who helps us tell the world that we have new life in our lives.’ “I felt like there was at least something I could do to use my images to almost protect them if I could,” added Mr. Harriman.
The couple shared never-before-seen pregnancy photos
Harry said that after announcing the pregnancy, two people sent him a newspaper front page from Valentine’s Day 1984 announcing that his mother was pregnant with Harry.
Harry and Meghan’s announcement came on the same day in 2021. “I was shocked,” Harry said. “We had no idea. It was just a coincidence, or maybe not a coincidence.”
