“Avatar 3”: James Cameron hints at fire-wielding Na’vi
The director says we’re going to meet the ‘Ash People’ from Pandora.
On our first two trips to Pandora avatar Viewers have seen the cruel side of humanity – greed, self-interest, violence and profit above all else. The purity of life was demonstrated by the planet’s indigenous people – the Na’vi. The forest-dwelling Omaticaya were our introduction to the Na’vi in 2009 avatarwhile 2022 is Avatar: The Way of Water saw the introduction of the Metkayina, the tribe that lives in the coastal regions of Pandora.
In the movie Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and his family flee the forests into the oceans, seeking refuge from the peaceful ocean-dwelling tribes, but now director JamesCameron has hinted that in the third installment of his multi-billion dollar franchise, we’ll encounter a darker side of the Na’vi – fire-wielding denizens of the planet he dubs the “Ash People.” Speaking to French publication 20 Minutes, Cameron revealed that we can expect to see “different cultures” from around the world.
Fire is represented by the “ash people”. I want to show the Na’vi from a different angle because I’ve only shown their good sides so far. In the early films there are very negative human examples and very positive Na’vi examples. In Avatar 3 we do the opposite. We will also explore new worlds while continuing the story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best. The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before the food was served. But of course it will all depend on how Avatar 2 is received when it finds its audience.”
avatar 3 is nearly complete, and the cast is strengthened by the additions of Michelle Yeoh, Oona Chaplin and David Thewlis. Yeoh becomes the human scientist Dr. Karina will play Mogue, Chaplin will play Varang, a Na’vi, and Thewlis will play an unnamed Na’vi character who may play one of the nefarious “Ash People”.
The way of the water continues to lag at the global box office, recently surpassed $1.4 billion and appears to be catching up Top Gun: Maverick as the biggest release of 2022. The film has been reported to need to hit $1.4 billion to break even, with the budget for sequels estimated to be less due to the technology needed to do so starting with the second film was budgeted. Should The way of the water If you keep up with current expectations, there’s a good chance the film will hit the $2 billion mark.
avatar 3 is scheduled to hit theaters on December 20, 2024.
