James Gunn slams DC rumors as he begins storyboarding ‘Superman Legacy’

James Gunn is in the process of storyboarding Superman Legacy and has taken some time to deal with all the rumors he’s read online about DC.

“I’m being bombarded with bullshit DC rumors this morning,” he said tweeted. “I just want to reiterate the general rule of not believing anything unless it comes from me or from Peter [Safran]. But unless it’s terribly bad, I’ll take it slower about pointing out shit. (Sorry, I know it’s one of my favorite traditions).”

Gunn is known for engaging on social media with fans excited for what’s to come in the DC Universe as he and Safran begin work on Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The filmmaker explained the three reasons he took a step back to clear up all the fan rumors: “1) Some people make up lies to get attention from me or to get clicks, and I don’t want to encourage that.” 2) Me read a hundred rumors this morning. ONE of them is half true. That’s why I don’t want to be used to throw nonsense at the wall until something sticks.”

Gunn concluded by saying, “3) I’m storyboarding Superman Legacy and I don’t have time! Have a great day!”

In a follow-up tweet, Gunn said the new Superman movie is “a long way from first draft” as it’s only in the storyboarding stages.

Back in January, Safran teased what “Superman Legacy” would be about.

“It’s not an origin story, it’s about how Superman balances his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He’s the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, he’s kindness in a world that thinks kindness is old-fashioned,” Safran said.

Gunn recently said that only one person was cast in Superman Legacy and it wasn’t the Man of Steel himself. Names rumored to be being considered for the role of Clark Kent include Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet, Jacob Elordi and Andrew Richardson.
