How Kate Middleton and Prince William Broke Their Social Media Silence After the ‘Harry & Meghan’ Trailer Release

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s much-touted Boston tour has taken a back seat to the trailers for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Netflix documentary series the racism scandal at the palace last weekbut the Prince and Princess of Wales made their first social media posts following the release of the Harry & Meghan trailer on Monday particularly interesting – and insightful.
The first, shared on December 5, was a post in Boston expressing gratitude for their royal trip – a sign that everything is still business as usual for the royals.
This morning, while much of the British tabloids’ coverage focused on Harry and Meghan’s Netflix series, the prince and princess, who almost never show public displays of affection, released a series of black and white behind-the-scenes photos were recorded by Chris Jackson for the Earthshot Prize, in which they are unusually sweet. “Behind the scenes at the second annual #EarthshotPrize 🌎🏆 awards ceremony,” they captioned the post. “We celebrate brilliant solutions and the inspiring people behind them!”
The couple said nothing about Meghan and Harry’s project, which infamously featured a photo of them glaring at her in its first teaser, either in their Earthshot post or in their “Thanks Boston” post. They also didn’t comment on the Harry & Meghan project at all during their trip.

The romantic Instagram could arguably be seen as yet another attempt by Kate and William to bring the news cycle back to focus on them and the Earthshot Prize Awards (which itself faced some controversy as celebrities attended the ceremony, but the award winners took theirs remote awards to reduce the carbon footprint required for travel). But it seems that not even a rare public love fest between the prince and princess can distract the internet from promises that the royal family’s drama will be revealed.
